Interior Designer, Fine Artist, Architectural Sculptor,
BIO
Magdalen is originally from England and Scotland, and grew up around the world, including Toronto, Hong Kong, New York, Tokyo and California. With a father being a landscape painter and international banker, she was exposed to art and design from a young age. Her passion for art, sculpture, architecture and design, led her to study Fine Art at Parson’s School of Design, in New York City, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
After graduating, Magdalen headed west to California where she learned to build, literally working construction, hammering nails, tiling and painting decorative faux finishes throughout San Diego. Her love of architecture led her to work with internationally known sculptor, James Hubbell for 6 years. Magdalen's work at the Hubbell studio included metalwork, woodwork, mosaic, architectural drafting, designing, model building, but most importantly, her "minds eye" was transformed by Hubbell's innovative ways to build and live with limitless artistic expression. Hubbell’s sculptural architecture and artistry are some of California’s finest treasures. For the first time ever, his beautiful watercolors and drawings are available for reproduction in sizes and framing options of your choice, here through Woven Lotus.
For the past 25 years, Magdalen has been creating unique environments, using a wide range of mediums including large-scale murals, artistic design works, sacred mandalas, faux finishes, architectural wall features, metal lighting and fire-pit artworks. As an Interior designer she is well versed in color consulting, space-planning, kitchen/bath design, stone/tile/mosaics, furnishings, and more. She uses her talents with graphic design and 3D CAD programs, to create effective visualizations, necessary in the design process and continues her work with oils as a fine art painter.
Magdalen has created the WOVEN LOTUS Art Gallery, as a meeting place for Artists and Visionaries, to help clients transform their homes and businesses into powerful, poetic and memorable environments.
Beyond the Design Studio, Magdalen draws inspiration from music, dancing, distant cultures, ancient designs, animals and walking with the natural world.
WHO I AM
My mind's eye dwells in the land of color, forms, rhythm, textures and the beautiful spaces in between. It is my language and passion.
My creative endeavors have taken me throughout the world... from painting “new life” into ancient castles and homes of Europe, to building sculptural dwellings in the desert and transforming modern houses of California. Every project brings new opportunities to channel creative collaboration and opens my mind to greater possibilities.
Over the past 2 pandemic years, I explored new horizons, developed new skills of expression and am weaving together new threads into my life's tapestry of Art and Design. Now, I am excited to share this new facet… the WOVEN LOTUS Art Gallery.
